Each year, the "Bishop's Dinner For Catholic Schools" serves not only as the largest fundraiser for all 16 school systems in the Diocese of Sioux City but also as an opportunity to recognize educators and other school employees for their determination and dedication to fostering an outstanding learning environment in their schools.

The two awards are the "Excellence in Education Award" (strictly for teachers) and the "Good Shepherd Award". The number of award recipients fluctuates each year as it is at the discretion of the Awards Committee and Bishop Nickless as to the number of awards distributed each year.
